Assignment 1: Individual Research Report
Scope:
You have been introduced the project topic and the project cycle. In the first three weeks each member of the team has been assigned a learning issue or project concept issue, this report is a submission of your findings.
Description:
The individual report will cover the learning issue assigned to you during the team discussion settings once the project was presented to you. The report will describe your findings and reflections for the topic assigned and how these findings contribute to the topic at hand.
The report will contain a brief description of the project topic, and the learning topic assigned to you. This will be followed by the about your findings and a critical analysis of how this relates to the topic at hand. A sample template of the report is given below
a. Introduction
b. Learning Topic
c. Key Findings
d. Conclusions
e. References
The report length will be between 1000 -1500 words.
Submission:
Each student will submit an individual report via Canvas. The written report is to be prepared using an appropriate academic writing style. and to include a list of references. Refer to the IEEE referencing style. available at the Swinburne Library. The submitted report file format must be in pdf format.
Assignment 2: Team Design Concept
Task:
Your team has been given a design problem and your team will work on this problem in order to identify potential solutions and determine the best design solution by applying the principles of your specialisation.
Before you start executing your solution your teams need to finalise a design brief, this assignment is about your design brief or concept.
You can refer to the “Design Brief” template provided to you below. You can alter this template according to your needs.
The design brief should define the “Key Objectives” and the “Scope” . The document should also describe the purpose and function along with a project plan which will list the project milestones. This document must be prepared in consultation with your facilitator and will also include the expected outcomes.
Your team will conduct substantial and relevant research to gain an understanding of problem and utilise the information gained from the first assignment and use it to detail your project methodology for the design solution.
Submission Requirements
The following are submission requirements for all student teams.
• This assignment is to be undertaken in team with an equal contribution by all team
members. Your submission should include Team Submission Coversheet as well as Team Breakdown document.
• Although the page limit is between 7-9 pages, you must include all necessary components of Design Brief as outline in the template provided.
• A written report is to be prepared using an appropriate academic writing style. and to include a list of references. Refer to the IEEE referencing style. available at the Swinburne Library
• The submitted report file format must be in pdf format.
• Don’t waste time with fancy layouts, colours, cover pages, and so on. A simple text-based
format is all that is needed with the report layout consisting of a few sections of text (with
section headings). Use photos or diagrams sparingly and only if necessary and/or relevant to include in your report. Just use a basic and common text font such as Arial or Times New
Roman with at least 12-point font size for body text. Single-spaced paragraphs are acceptable.
Template
• Executive Summary
• Introduction
o Project overview
o Background
o Project Objectives and Scope
• Design Concept
o Preliminary design
o Methodology
o Design constraints
o Specifications
• Project Management Plan
o Timeline
o Goals and Milestones
o Team breakdown and duties
• Conclusion
Assignment 3: Project Demonstration and Presentation - (30%)
Task:
Teams will present their project activities and findings in an oral presentation following the project demonstration.
You will walkthrough your design solution, the walkthrough will be an opportunity for individual students to showcase their progress on the design which could be a model or a prototype. You will demonstrate the key concepts in the design and the working of the model or prototype.
The oral presentation will highlight the development aspects of the project. Teams have 25 minutes for the task which include 15 minutes for the presentation and 10 minutes for questions from the panel. Please remember that your presentation should focus on your project deliverables to the client and issues or challenges around your deliverables. You can also include background, milestones, achievements, success, etc.
• Each team member will contribute equally in presentation.
• This is a team presentation so individual will be assessed in team performance;
• Your team should check presentation for technical compatibility.
Assignment 4: Individual Project Report - (40%)
Task:
You need to submit a document which will report, discuss, and evaluate the learning outcomes achieved in the project. This is an individual report and it will include evidence and reflection that demonstrates the achievement of the unit learning outcomes. It will also discuss the outcomes of your project and the design fundamentals applied in the project. The report will include details from the evaluations carried out in testing and include the design solution or model. The report will also highlight your individual contribution to the project with simulation and test results and include the response to the feedback provided on the design brief and during the project demonstration and presentation.
Your report must include the following sections (in addition to other relevant sections you think appropriate):
• Executive Summary
• Table of content
• Introduction
o Project topic background and motivations
o Project description
o Project scope/objectives
• A brief review on existing work
o Please include a paragraph of your contribution
• Design concept(s)
o Problem statement
o Methods and Implementation (Hardware and Software)
• Individual Contribution
o A reflective write up of how you contributed to the project and met the learning outcomes of the unit
o At least two examples for each learning outcomes and if the examples serve two learning outcomes, they can be combined
• Reflection(s)
o Methods (e.g. Semantic segmentation and Camera choices)
o Technical learning (e.g. working with Deep learning Frameworks)
• Project Outcomes
o Explanations, plots, and samples of results are needed to be included
• Conclusion and Future recommendations/Implementation
All bulkier items must go in an Appendix
Your report should include appendices which will have the following items:
Teamwork Breakdown
Technical Log.
