Two-Stage Project Assignment:
Network Analysis and Architecture Design for a Real-World Networking System
Stage 1: Project Proposal and Requirements Analysis (Assignment 01, Due Week 5)
Objective:
• To conduct a comprehensive requirements analysis for a real-world networking system (e.g., a university campus network).
Deliverable:
Project Proposal:
o Introduction: Brief description of the chosen networking system.
o Objectives: Clear objectives of the network design project.
o Scope: Define the project's scope, including constraints and assumptions.
Requirements Analysis Report:
o Requirements Specifications:
Detailed description of each requirement, including user, applications, devices, and network aspects.
Importance, source and location for each requirement.
o Requirements Map:
A complete requirements map, describing location dependencies of application requirements and other requirements.
Visualization of how requirements are mapped across different locations and their dependencies.
o Traffic Flow Specifications:
Detailed specifications of expected traffic flows within the network.
Analysis of traffic patterns, volume, and critical paths.
o Assumptions and Constraints:
List any assumptions made during the requirements analysis.
Constraints that may affect the project.
Stage 2: Logical Network Architecture Design (Assignment 02, Due Week 13)
Objective:
• To develop a logical network architecture based on the requirements analysis conducted in Stage 1.
Deliverable:
o Logical Network Diagram: A detailed diagram illustrating the logical layout of the network, including subnets, VLANs, and key network devices.
o Network Addressing Architecture
o Network Routing Architecture
o Network Design Rationale: Explanation of design choices, including topology, addressing scheme, and routing protocols.
o Network Services Design: Design and description of essential network services such as DNS, DHCP, and authentication mechanisms.
o Network Performance Architecture: Scalability and Performance Considerations, Strategies for ensuring the network can scale and perform. under expected load conditions.
o Network Management Architecture
o Security Architecture: Logical security measures, including firewalls, access control policies, and encryption strategies.
o Redundancy and Fault Tolerance: Design features that ensure network availability and reliability.
