SCM3604 Shipping & Transport Logistics
Year 2024/25 Semester 1
Group Project
Background
The CEO and several management representatives of your company attended a world forum [1] . Three of the major issues identified in the forum are: (1) Supply chain decarbonisation, (2) Logistics emergency and recovery, and (3) One-belt one-road/Greater Bay Area opportunities. The first issue requires the company to look strategically into the global supply chain carbon footprints and the effectiveness of decarbonisation options. These include the delivery of first quantified insights into the challenge, the commercially viable opportunities along the supply chain, and the implementation recommendations. The second involves the emergency deployment of logistics assets and resources in support and recovery of the impacted shipments of customers in response to natural disasters. Various functions in the company need to work together to improve the impacted cargos as well as the global corporate citizenship. The cross-functional team acts as an "Early Warning System", taking the lead on emerging issues. One-belt one-road promotes regional connectivity through infrastructure and a better network in rail and sea transportation. Greater Bay Area (GBA) promotes the integration and flow among the cities in the GBA. After the meeting, the management team of your company sees the need to strengthen these three areas in the company as well as promoting to customers these areas among the core competences of your company.
The Director of Sales and Supply Chain Solution, after attending the forum, has called for a meeting with his teams. Your team is needed tore-package the existing products and services provided in the company. Besides illustrating the existing products being provided, your team needs to include the current initiative and products you have on the supply chain decarbonisation, logistics emergency recovery, or One-belt one- road opportunities. You have carried out a case presentation of your company. You have also evaluated with the planning department who has just carried out one of the initiatives in mapping and reducing the carbon emission. It is a study to optimize the supply chain with the consideration of carbon emission, production and shipping costs, mode of transportation, and the provided budget [2] .
