Assessment item description

A description of the assessment item is as follows:

The aim of this assessment task is for you to create and publish three (1 per blog post in weeks 6,9 &11) digital media items that are multimodal in nature.  They may incorporate, text, image, sound and moving image in any combination.  You will use these digital publications to searchingly reflect on the themes of the course and write a critical reflection on the process of creating these images.

Subject learning outcomes (SLOs)

On successful completion of this assessment item, students should achieve the following outcomes:

SLO1

Apply skills in digital publishing and digital image production and compositing (task 1).

SLO2

Integrate practical, critical and theoretical aspects of contemporary media use (task 2,3).  

SLO3

Critically reflect on your own production, especially the ethical responsibilities of multimodal and participatory communication (task 2,3).

SLO4

Examine the diverse experiences of indigenous Australians with relation to digital literacy (task 1,3).

For this assessment item you are required to produce the following:

Using the Wix webpage you setup for A1, undertake an iterative, process-based approach to creating/changing and publishing three multimedia projects that engage with manipulation and compositing. As a form. of practice-based exploration, you will publish work-in-progress documentation on both the theoretical and practical experimentation involved in the production of your media text, and critically reflect on how your work engages with the ethical responsibilities of multimodal and participatory communication. You will also individually present your final digital publication task in class during Week 11.

Length: 3 digitally manipulated medias and a 300 x 3 (+-10%) word documentation/reflection text on the media and the process of changing the media.

Deadline: There are THREE submission deadlines for this assessment. For EACH submission you will need 1 digitally manipulated media and a documentation/reflection text.

• Submission 1 - Production: by 11:59pm on Friday of Week 6. You must email your name and the URL to your Wix website to your tutor by this deadline or it will be considered no submission and you will receive zero marks.

Worth: 30% of A4 marks.

What is due: 1 digitally manipulated media and 1x300 word documentation/reflection text.

• Submission 2 - Production: by 11:59pm on Friday of Week 9. You must email your name and the URL to your Wix website to your tutor by this deadline or it will be considered no submission and you will receive zero marks.

Assessment item submission requirements

For this assessment item you are required to submit the following:

· Three multimodal digital publications are required from you in weeks 6, 9 & 11.

· These may consist of text, image, sound or moving image and of course a combination of all of these.

· Each entry should also include a 300-word reflection on your concept, theme and process and evidence of the iterative process you engaged with.

· In week 11 you will present a brief overview of your final digital publishing task to the class for feedback.
