Problem Statement:

As technology has advanced over the last 20 to 25 years, the emergence of data mining has presented numerous problems for individual privacy and freedom within society.

Businesses are leveraging the data generated by their consumers to target consumers with advertisements and display particular products. Users gain very little from any of this beyond the perceived bene%its of individualized advertising. In many cases consumers may have little idea that their personal privacy has been compromised or which aspects are vulnerable.

Proposed Product:

The proposed app would not only let consumers know which organizations are using their data, but also provide them with options on how to limit the amount of data that businesses can access. While some types of data mining are completely inescapable, consumers can feel safer about their privacy. The app could theoretically provide alternatives to certain apps as well as advice on how to minimize one's digital footprint.
