IMPORTANT
1. Always access Canvas using Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Firefox. Do not use Safari
2. If you have problems accessing your exam email your school office immediatelyBusiness- accountingfinance@sussex.ac.uk .
3. You must start this exam at the time published in your Sussex Direct Timetable.
4. Your submission must include:
• Your candidate number (Do not put your name on your paper)
• The title of the module and the module code
5. You are advised to save and submit your assessment in pdf format, as this prevents issues with file corruption. It is also the only format that will be considered/accepted if you have issues uploading by the deadline. Please note that for a file to be accepted by Turnitin, your submission must be a single file and must include at least 20 words of typed text. Further guidance about Turnitin
submissions can be found here:
https://student.sussex.ac.uk/assessment/submission/canvas-turnitin
6. You have 2.5 hours to complete AND submit the exam (note that Sussex Direct will only show the work time of the exam in your Assessment Timetable).
Note: You may submit your exam as many times as you wish before the exam ends. When submitting through Turnitin, each upload will automatically replace the previous version.
7. Allow enough time (at least 30 minutes) to ORGANISE, SAVE, and SUBMIT. Do not leave the
uploading/submission to the last 5 minutes. It may result in you missing the deadline and having to do a resit.
8. If you have extra time due to Reasonable Adjustments this is already added to your exam on Canvas, and you will see a different deadline to the one below.
9. After the exam end time you will NOT be able to submit because the Canvas link will have expired. If you fail to submit by the deadline/exam end time , your exam grade will be ZERO.
10. If you are facing issues with your file upload, please read and refer to the submission issue guidance on the last page of this document.
Date: Friday 17th January 2025
Exam Start Time: 14:00 PM GMT
Exam End time (includes time for uploading - see above): 16:30 PM GMT
The Exam End time is when the Canvas link closes, and you will no longer be able to submit
There are FIVE questions, each has FOUR parts. Each part carries 5 marks. Candidates must attempt ALL questions. Answers must be written entirely in your own handwriting and, if illustrations are used, these must be hand-drawn diagrams. You may also use any resources from the N1569 canvas site and any external web resources. Copying verbatim from GenAI is personation which carries a heavy penalty under our University plagiarism policy. GenAI tools often give incorrect answers that are not sufficiently salient or concise, and tend to use different notation to that adopted in this module. So while these tools might be useful aids, if you seek their output this needs to be cross-checked with the course material anyway, adding considerably to the time you need to complete the paper. Also, your mathematical notation should agree with that used in lectures, otherwise marks will be deducted. In addition to the 2 hours for writing your answers, all students have 30 minutes to prepare and upload their submission. To do this, open a new Word document and type in headings for each question, e.g. “Question 1" and so forth. Then take photos of your handwriting and any diagrams you have drawn, and embed them in the Word document in the correct order. Next use “save as" to save the Word document as a PDF, using your candidate number as the document title. Check the readability and size of this PDF file. High resolution photos are easier to read but they are also large and if your PDF is many tens of megabytes, it could take a long time to upload to Canvas. |
Guidance for students regarding submission issues:
1. If you are unable to take or complete your exam due to a sudden and unforeseen situation, follow the guidance on Exceptional Circumstances. This will not allow you to submit late , but depending on if you meet the criteria , you may be offered an uncapped resit.
Be aware that technical issues are not accepted criteria for Exceptional Circumstances claims.
2. If you have completed your exam but experience issues submitting your exam, (such as a problem with Canvas/connectivity), complete this formwithin 15 minutes* of the exam end time, with the
PDF file you were attempting to upload. You must provide your file in PDF format and this file must not have been modified after Exam has closed.
*If you have an issue that prevented you from contacting us within the 15-minute timeframe, such as an internet provider issue that required the attendance of a service provider, the Directors of Teaching and Learning may consider your case if notified by midnight (UK Time) on the day of submission. However, in order to consider your case, at a minimum they will need a copy of your work saved as a pdf file, unedited past the end time of the exam, plus clear evidence of the issue you experienced. They will then consider your case and make a decision at their discretion, on whether the exam will be accepted.
If students are required to embed any handwritten components within their assessment, such as
mathematical calculations, or drawings, which have been saved as an image file, they will need to include at least 20 words of typed text for the file to be accepted by Turnitin.
To ensure the file is accepted, it is recommended that students paste any images/ screen captures into this
page of the rubric, which already has sufficient words of typed text within it. Alternatively, students must
make sure the page they are adding images to has sufficient typed words in it prior to submission.
It is recommended that Word files which include images or screen shots are saved as PDF to retain
formatting before submitting. Please be aware that if text is only added after the file has been converted to
a PDF, Turnitin will not accept the file. The text must be in the original document created in Word.
