Part 1 [35 marks total]:

Using the data in Table 1 below, answer the following questions:

A student collected self-report EQ (Emotional Intelligence) scores from 30 university students who were studying different subjects and this has been displayed in table 1. Use the appropriate ANOVA techniques to answer the following questions:

Q1) Enter the data into SPSS carry out the appropriate analysis (and any subsequent post hoc tests) to investigate the effect of subject studied on EQ scores. Report your findings in the correct statistical format and in words. You do not need to include output from SPSS in your answers. [15marks]

Q2) The first 5 individuals in each subject (shaded grey) reported their sex as male and the second 5 people in each subject reported their sex as female (no shading). Enter this extra information into SPSS & carry out the appropriate analysis (with plots) to investigate the effect of subject studied AND gender on EQ scores together. Please write a paragraph explaining all your findings in detail. Please include the plot in your answer. You do not need to include other output from SPSS in your answers. [20 marks]

Part 2 [30 marks total]:

A research study has been conducted to examine the factors associated with work-related burnout. The researchers measured the extent to which the participants engaged in positive focus and denial coping strategies, the social support available to them, their level of self- compassion and their level of work-related burnout. All of these assessments resulted in scores measured on at least the interval scale. The researchers also recorded how long each participant had been working in their job and whether or not they had a managerial role.

Use the dataset "work stress.sav". For the following, carry out the appropriate statistical analysis.

1. Conduct a linear regression to answer the following question: to what extent is burnout explained by length of time working in the job, whether or not the participant has a managerial role, positive focus coping, denial coping, social support and self-compassion? Write a short results section including the relevant statistics and a summarising interpretation. Do not include any checks for assumptions at this stage. [10 marks]

2. Check the assumptions of this regression model and indicate whether or not each of these assumptions has been violated. Include the relevant output which you feel is necessary to support your claims. If any assumptions are violated, take the appropriate action to address the problem and re-run the regression analysis. If you need to do this, then provide the output for the new regression analysis, demonstrating how the assumptions are no longer violated. If it is impossible to modify the analysis so that the assumptions are no longer violated, then you need to state this clearly. [20 marks]
